backfiring can be heard when drive downhill and you use your engine as a brake. Then you can sometimes hear a big "explosion" in you exhaust. It sounds like someone shoots...
Or you try this: After a long drive stop and switch of the engine after given a bit more throttle. Then (when you really own a savage:-)) backfiring can be heard.
